NEW ZEALAND: The recent annual meeting of listed New Zealand company The Warehouse Group has testified to the country's economic slump. Announcing the company's results on November 28, chairman Keith Smith confirmed that despite a difficult trading environment Warehouse had achieved a net profit after tax of NZ$ 90.8 million (A$ 74.9 million) compared to NZ$ 114.8 million last year.

AUCKLAND: German sportswear giant Adidas has extended its sponsorship agreement with New Zealand rugby, amid speculations it could soon pull the plug on its professional swimming contracts. According to a report in the New Zealand Herald newspaper, Adidas would continue its relationship with the All Blacks through to 2019 in what it described as one of the biggest sponsorship packages in world rugby.

PERTH: Sleepwear brand Peter Alexander has learned that good things do come to those who wait. The Just Group retailer has just secured a CBD location in Perth's Hay Street, following a two year search. Located in heritage-listed building McNess Royal Arcade, the store will sit alongside several ground floor shops, including womenswear brand Dotti, which will take up a retail tenancy next year.

MELBOURNE: High end knitwear label Cable Melbourne has expanded its range for autumn/winter 09 with the addition of a basics line. Cable Basics are made from lightweight 100 per cent Australian Merino wool and available in scoop neck, roll neck and cardigan styles with a palette of grey marle, black and milk. The range was designed to complement the brand's existing offer, which had also been enhanced for the new season, a spokesperson said.

NATIONAL: New Zealand women's fashion chain Max is defying current trends by continuing with its plans to expand into Australia while also undertaking a brand overhaul. The news comes despite the fact New Zealand is in the grip of a recession prompting several other brands, including competitor Glassons, to shelve their expansion plans.

NATIONAL: David Jones has been forced to defend its recently launched American Express branded credit card after concerns were expressed it could diminish its "prestigious reputation". According to a report by the Australian Associated Press, the issue was raised repeatedly at the department store's annual meeting on Friday with one shareholder drawing cheers for describing the credit card provider as "low grade".

SYDNEY: Top executives at high-end American brand Calvin Klein will shortly be winging their way to Australia as part of a unique collection launch. The 40-year-old company's CEO and president Tom Murray will be joined by several other company executives for the launch, which will be staged on Sydney Harbour's Cockatoo Island.
