Westfield Bondi is re-opening in phases following the stabbing attack last Saturday where six people were killed.

The attacker was also fatally shot at the scene by a member of the NSW Police Force.

A Community Reflection Day will be held today, April 18, at the Westfield Bondi centre, with retailers still remaining closed.

Community members are invited to visit the centre between 11:00am to 5:00pm. Condolence books will be made available in an online format and hard copy.

Mental health counsellors from EAP Assure and Lifeline and other community partners will be available for people to speak with

Customers will be offered black ribbon commemoration pins to wear as a symbol of solidarity with the victims and their families.

The centre will then reopen for trade tomorrow at the normal hours of 9:30am to 6:00pm, with the centre remaining on ‘quiet time’ for a period of time.

Westfield’s parent company Scentre Group expects many retailers across the centre to open for trade, but noted that some will phase their opening over the coming week.

“Westfield Bondi is an important community hub and we share the devastation that is being experienced at the tragedy that occurred at our centre,” Scentre Group CEO Elliott Rusanow said. “We are focused on re-opening Westfield Bondi in a way that is respectful of the victims’ families and all those who are grieving and experiencing trauma at this difficult time.

“We would like to thank our business partners for working with us through this period to re-open and reconnect with their customers. Business partners may re-open at different stages; and we ask the community for understanding as they do.

“Our focus is on supporting our people, our business partners and the broader community who love Westfield Bondi.”
