International fast fashion retailer Uniqlo has announced the opening of its newest store in Melbourne's Highpoint shopping centre.

Highpoint will mark the retailer’s second store in Melbourne’s West and its fifth store in Victoria, with the brand stating the opening signified its commitment to expanding its Australian operation.

The store covers 867 sqm and is situated alongside international and Australian brands in the centre's most recently developed mall.

The new store will also create over 100 jobs for workers in the local area and will offer consumers the complete range of its signature LifeWear apparel for men, women, kids and babies.

Uniqlo Australia COO Kenji Tsuji said the new store was in response to the growing consumer demand from the suburban retail market.

“We’ve seen strong demand for a Uniqlo store at Highpoint Shopping Centre, so we’re thrilled to finally confirm we’ll be opening a store this summer to expand our offering in Melbourne’s West.

“Our suburban growth strategy is still very much a focus following the overwhelmingly positive response from our Australian customers to date."

The announcement follows the news that the retailer will also be opening its 13th store nationally in Chermside, Queensland on October 5.
