eCommerce giant Amazon launched its Prime Day shopping event yesterday.

The event which kicks off in Australia first, sees Amazon reduce prices across a range of products and categories exclusively for Prime Members.

Due to the time zone Australians have the longest Prime Day in the world, being able to shop the sale for 65 hours.

The fashion deals available include 50% off Adidas and Nike clothing and shoes as well as 40% off Michael Kors watches.

In 2018 sales from small and medium businesses on Prime Day exceeded US$1.5 billion globally.

MD of Melbourne-based business Canningvale Jordan Prainito said the business saw a significant increase in sales on Prime Day in 2018.

"Canningvale is excited to be participating in Prime Day again this year after seeing almost a 500% uplift in sales last year.

"Prime Day has become one of the biggest shopping events in the northern hemisphere and in time, we expect it to be no different for Australia."

The 2019 Prime Day is the second to take place in Australia after Amazon launched Prime Membership in the region in 2018.
