Customisable footwear brand Shoes of Prey is set to shutter its retail presence in department stores David Jones and Nordstrom in the US.

According to reports from the Australian Financial Review, Shoes of Prey co-founder Jodie Fox has confirmed the business will return to pure-play online retail.

"The physical stores have been hugely important for us. But where we're at now as a brand ... with all our ducks now aligned, the most profitable and biggest opportunity for Shoes of Prey right now is in pure play online.”

Last year Shoes of Prey managed to secure $15 million in funding from Nordstrom and invested in interactive design studios across five locations in the US and David Jones' flagship Sydney store.

In July this year Fox spoke to Ragtrader exclusively about the challenges of operation in the physical retail space.

“As we have grown the business, we have been focused on scaling to make customisation a viable retail, accessible, mainstream, affordable option for shoppers.”

It is understood Shoes of Prey will commence the closure of its physical stores this month.
