Retail executive Scott Evans will take on the role of CEO at Alquemie Group, succeeding Sacha Laing.

Alquemie Group manages several fashion and retail brands, including Ginger and Smart, Pumpkin Patch, SurfStitch, Insight, General Pants Co., Lego and National Geographic.

Evans has spent the past 10 years as CEO and managing director of Mosaic Brands, with Erica Berchtold recently being announced as his successor. Prior to Mosaic, he was CEO of Bras & Things and general manager of Millers and Crossroads at Specialty Fashion Group.

“Having worked closely with Scott for the past 10 years, I’m genuinely excited to have someone of his calibre and experience join the Group and take the business forward,” Alquemie Group executive chairman and founder Richard Facioni said.

“Sacha advised me some time ago of his desire to step down after an intensive 5 years in the role, which included navigating COVID, successfully managing the sale of General Pants to Alquemie, overseeing the integration of the two businesses, then managing a period of significant growth within a tough economic environment.”

Over the past 18 months, the group has expanded its physical store network, particularly across the Lego Certified Stores business, and launched new brands Disney 100 and National Geographic Wear.

Sacha Laing said he is incredibly proud of what he and his team achieved over the last five years.

“The Group is now going through a period of consolidation, leveraging the benefits of our investment in growth capital,” Laing said. “With the timing of Scott’s availability, and having discussed it with Richard, we mutually feel now is the right time for change, enabling a continuity of leadership.”

Richard Facioni thanked Laing for his contribution to Alquemie Group, particularly with the acquisition of General pants.

“He leaves with our very best wishes for the future.”

Evans welcomed the new role.

“Alquemie’s focus on rapid growth complemented by its portfolio of strong retail brands makes this one of the most exciting leadership roles in the sector,” Evans said. “I’m looking forward to working with Richard and the team on the next phase for the Group.”

Laing will remain with Alquemie until mid-April, with Scott anticipated to commence in June.
