As Australian retailers rally for orders to get taxed at the border, Net-A-Porter has bumped up its customer service.

Customers of its subsidiary TheOutnet.com will now be eligible to receive store credit for duties on items returned on orders over $1000.

Net-A-Porter has had a similar policy in place since May, 2015.

The duty refund will be issued as a store credit to consumers' account within 14 days of processing a return.

In an email sent to customers, TheOutnet.com explained the move is aimed at giving them the best possible service.

International orders under $1000 currently attract no duties at the border, while imports over this amount are susceptible to taxes.

Australian retailers and industry groups have been campaigning to reduce the threshold to as low as $20.
