Melbourne Airport has announced has announced the redevelopment of its International Terminal 2 (T2) precinct to transform its retail offering.

Led by Lend Lease and local architecture firm NH Architecture, the airport has set out to capture a host of international and luxury retailers to join the fold and enhance its shopping experience.

It follows the successful opening of its T4 Domestic Terminal last year.

Melbourne Airport chief of retail Andrew Gardiner believes the transformation will offer global appeal to both retailers and passengers.

"The transformation of T2 is an important step in Melbourne Airport’s vision to create an airport that Melburnians can be proud of, and will offer travellers a shopping and dining experience on par with leading airports around the world.

“Airports are either the first or last touch point of a traveller’s journey through our great city, so we are striving to deliver an experience that strengthens our customers’ connection to Melbourne and leaves a lasting impression.”

Following suit from Sydney Airport's retail overhaul, the redevelopment will feature a luxury precinct.

It is estimated that around the terminal will attract around 13 million travellers per year.

Melbourne Airport's transformation is due for completion in 2018, with new retailers yet to be announced.
