Activewear label Lorna Jane has partnered with Fitness Australia for Active Nation Day.

An initiative started by Lorna Jane founder Lorna Jane Clarkson, Active Nation Day encourages everyone to take time to re-prioritise their health and wellbeing and remind themselves of how good it feels to get active.

The partnership with Firness Australia will see the Active Nation Day expand further across communities through Fitness Australia's registered trainers, instructors and fitness centres which will hold hundreds of free activities and events to get Australia moving.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ National Health Survey, in 2017-18 two thirds (67.0%) of Australian adults were overweight or obese (12.5 million people), an increase from 63.4% in 2014-15.

The survey also indicated that almost one quarter (24.9%) of children aged five to 17 years were overweight or obese in 2017-18 (17% overweight and 8.1% obese).

Clarkson said that after reading these statistics, she decided she had to do something.

"Active Nation Day began when I read our country’s alarming health statistics in 2012. I knew we needed to do something.

"So, I started Active Nation Day as a simple, fun and accessible way for people to stop and think about their health and inspire them to re-prioritise what they were doing to take care of themselves.

"We all have to come together and play our part in improving the health and wellbeing of our nation.

"With these statistics getting worse each year, we need to act!

"By having Active Nation Day recognised on the calendar we have a chance to increase awareness across the country and can work together towards a healthier, happier and fitter future for all Australians," she said.

Active Nation Day will take place on Sunday September 29.
