Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has met with industry figureheads to discuss economic and public diplomacy in the fashion sector.

The meeting was held at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on May 11.

Led by the Australian Fashion Chamber, industry representatives at the forum included executives from Ellery, MJ Bale, David Jones, RMIT, IMG, Melbourne Fashion Festival, Ragtrader, STRATEAS.CARLUCCI, Johanna Johnson, Woolmark, Cotton Australia and NAC Media.

The forum, aimed at fostering small to medium sized businesses, discussed how the government could engage with fashion industry leaders to promote the $12 billion fashion trade globally.

This included public diplomacy and marketing opportunities, education and training, government outreach activities, market access and industry data.

A memorandum of understanding is currently in the pipeline.
