Brisbane-based Indooroopilly Shopping Centre reported an increase in sales of over 5 per cent during the Christmas season, with department stores, beauty, and retail services scoring the largest year-on-year growth.

The centre houses key department stores Myer and David Jones, alongside low-price retailers Kmart and Target. It also houses over 100 fashion retailers.

Indooroopilly Shopping Centre cited a strategic marketing plan for the lift in sales. This included the launch of key activations and services including Santa’s arrival and photos, complimentary ride sharing, free childcare, a free wine bar and personal shoppers.

Santa’s grand arrival parade drove the most traffic with over 15,000 customers in attendance.

Overall, the centre recorded over 2 million visitors across November and December.

Indooroopilly Shopping Centre general manager Steven Ihm said the centre was determined to bring positive experiences despite the cost-of-living and Christmas period pressures.

“It’s important to provide our customers with more than just a place to shop – Christmas shopping shouldn’t be stressful, hence why we offer a suite of services and special offers to support every type of shopper,” Ihm said.

“We saw a noticeable difference in spending behaviours, with customers being selective over their purchases and utilising Black Friday to complete their Christmas shopping.

“We ultimately wanted to make shopping at Indro as convenient as possible during the busy Christmas period, giving back to the community to create an enjoyable festive experience.”

The centre’s senior marketing manager Jessica Tye said trade continued to track expectations into the new year.

“The centre was buzzing with customers as we always had something on, and it was great to see customers returning to explore the latest offerings and experiences available.”
