A new campaign will be launched this week which aims to change the way consumers engage with fashion purchases.
Ethical Clothing Australia is behind the Meet your Maker project, which will reveal the faces behind the production of the country's fashion, while educating consumers about the importance of fair trade in the garment industry.
By profiling these makers, the scheme will highlight the Australian brands leading the new wave of ethical fashion, ensuring all the workers involved in the manufacturing and production of their garments are paid fairly and treated properly.
Ethical Clothing Australia is a Government funded initiative that assists the textile, clothing and footwear industry to ensure Australian workers receive fair wages and decent conditions.
It provides ethical brands and manufacturers with a way to help ensure legal obligations and standards are met throughout the supply chain.
Minister for the tertiary education, skills, jobs and workplace relations, Senator The Hon Christopher Evans, will address people in the fashion industry at the Meet Your Maker launch this week.
The event will be held at the Ginger & Smart boutique, which is an Ethical Clothing Australia accredited brand.
