Online retailer eBay has released its figures from 2016, which showed that shoppers spent 448 million hours on the site itself over the course of the year.

Figures also showed that one in two Australian shoppers on eBay also purchased something from the site, with 122 million new listings being created throughout 2016.

Mobile was a major factor in shopper behaviour, with 67% of site traffic coming from mobile devices and 2.3 items being sold per second on them.

Globally, Australian sellers on the site were able to connect with customers from more than 150 countries worldwide.

Monday (December 12) saw the busiest shopping day of the year, a week later than previous years.

Christmas figures showed 2.62 million people visited the site, with 9pm - 10pm being the strongest hours during this period.
