David Jones will permanently close two Victorian Food locations at Capitol Grand and Malvern Central, as it looks to streamline its Food business.

The retailer will also close the Food Hall in its Bourke St Mall menswear building next month, ahead of its exit from the building next year.

In the meantime, David Jones' existing Premium Pantry and Gifting ranges will move to a temporary location in the Bourke St womenswear store, before a permanent Food offering will open in the womenswear site next year.

The restructure of the Food business will also see the retailer extend the new offering to both in-store and online channels.

David Jones’ Food Halls at Elizabeth Street (NSW) and Bondi Junction (NSW) will be elevated to provide an improved department store offering, featuring a selection of concession partners and experiential elements.

Meanwhile, the retailer's Premium Pantry and Gifting offerings will be further enhanced and extended across both stores and online.

David Jones CEO Scott Fyfe said the simplified Food business follows a strategic analysis of the offering.

"A recent review of our Food business has helped us identify a number of structural changes we need to make to ensure the ongoing success and profitability of this offering.

"Above all, we are committed to the ongoing delivery of the most iconic elements of our Food offering both instore and online.

"We look forward to continuing to share our much-loved David Jones Food range with customers across Australia and New Zealand, and to delivering a world-class instore experience at our Elizabeth Street and Bondi Junction Food Halls," he said.

The retailer will look to redeploy all team members impacted by the changes to other roles within the business.

The Capitol Grand and Malvern Food stores will close in April and May this year respectively.

David Jones' partnership with BP petrol stations will continue across 35 locations in Victoria and New South Wales.
