Chinese tourists' spending has reached a new record in Australia - exceeding $10 billion last year.

And now, shopping centres are getting in on the action to ring in the Lunar New Year.

Emporium Melbourne will offer international visitors a tailored experience through a new payment partnership announced this week.

Shoppers will soon have access to the payment service offered by UnionPay, the international bankcard brand that serves the world’s largest cardholder base, as part of a new deal launched in time for the Lunar New Year.

Many of the retailers at Emporium Melbourne will now accept UnionPay cards, giving international customers a shopping experience in Chinese Yuan.

Emporium Melbourne centre manager Kate Rooney said this is a vital service.

“We’re thrilled to have UnionPay as a partner as we welcome more international brands and visitors to Emporium Melbourne. UnionPay cardholders will now have an easier and more enjoyable shopping experience, thanks to this new partnership."

Sydney's QVB is also set to extend its services this Lunar New Year, with the relaunch of WeChat in-centre.

Customers who subscribe receive vouchers to Coach and Bally stores as well as free beauty samples at selected retailers.

WeChat is the most popular social media app in China.

Since 2011, it has restructured from a messaging service to an one-stop-shop super portal, with more than 900 million monthly active users.
