Myer and Kathmandu are among local retail giants clamping down on child labour abuses in offshore factories.

Ragtrader's November edition features coverage on factory audits conducted by both retailers.

Kathmandu's annual sustainability report revealed it conducted 48 audits throughout the year.

Of these audits, 42 corrective action plans were issued with one case of child labour identified.

It was revealed the child, aged 15 at the time of discovery, had deceived the factory to obtain work.

Kathmandu, a member of the Fair Labor Association, ceases business relationships or issues corrective plans in such instances.

Department store Myer also terminated one supplier due to a zero policy breach this year.

"In particular, Myer regards the exploitation of children as unacceptable and has a zero tolerance policy with regard to the use of child labour."

How did Kmart fare? Keep an eye out for Ragtrader's December edition.
