Donny Galella reveals how COVID-19 has spurred a new idea to transform everyday consumers.
Last year I set up an organisation called F.A.M.I.L.Y (Fashion and Media Industry Love You) as a way for my two key industries to give back to the community.
Our inaugural red carpet event raised over $50,000 for my favourite charities: R U Ok? and The McGrath Foundation.
Fast forward one year, COVID-19 hit.
I found I couldn't host another event and lots of my styling work got cancelled. With spare time on my hands, I decided to start an initiative called ‘100 Makeovers in 100 days’.
‘100 makeovers in 100 days’ is all about bringing some love and joy to Aussie men and women who have been doing it tough or have done something really special to help their community.
So far we have made over 38 people.
We have given makeovers to nurses on the front line fighting the pandemic, a woman who lost 90kg, a mother daughter duo who recently lost their dad/ grandfather, a mother who lost her son to suicide recently, some mums who go above and beyond for their families, a carer for her disabled sister and many more.
Recently we made over dads as a special Fathers Day gift, with, Big W kindly donating all the clothes. I hope to do more men’s makeovers over the coming weeks.
I am truly blown away by the kindness of partners in this initiative.
It really highlights the real Aussie spirit, that Aussie mateship. So many kind hearted people who are all donating their time to be a part of this. From the talented hair and makeup artists, assistant stylists and dressers, to the photographer and videographer.
I am so very grateful to all the fashion brands and companies who have jumped on board so far and donated.
Sheike, Saba and Trove accessories have all donated clothes and accessories. And to any brands that may want to come on board, they are most welcome as we still have quite a few more to go.

She has also kindly opened up her office doors, to share her facilities for my makeovers. Plus her amazing team actively help with the makeovers too.
