Online shopping return habits are costing Australian consumers $384 a year, according to a new ME study.

ME surveyed 1,000 Australian adults and found that the majority of consumers aren't always returning their unwanted online purchases.

70% admitted to not returning an online purchase that wasn't quite right due to reasons such as wrong size, fit or quality.

The research was commissioned to explore the potential cost of online returns behaviour and found that Australians typically want to return an average of four online purchases each year.

With $96 reported as the average spend per online purchase, ME found the potential annual loss of not returning items could cost $384 a year.
