“Amazon Web Services launched an Australian region in 2012."

"We launched a Kindle store on amazon.com.au in 2013 and we now have almost 1000 employees in the country.

“The next step is to bring a retail offering to Australia, and we are making those plans now.”

Amazon is set to ramp up local recruitment, adding hundreds of staff to the 1000 employees currently secured in Australia.

It is also hunting for a fulfilment centre spanning almost 100,000 square metres in either Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

While Amazon is rumoured to land in September, some web services could go live as early as July.
