Australian fashion businesses looking to improve their sustainability metrics now have access to some of Allbirds' key tools.

The New Zealand-born business has allowed competitors to view its trade secrets, sharing its Carbon Footprint tools and resources with the entire fashion industry.

The move follows the open-sourcing of the brand's innovative sugarcane based EVA, SweetFoam - now used by brands including Reebok, Timberland and Ugg.

After hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars of investment, Allbirds' third-party verified life cycle assessment (LCA) tool is now available for the industry to use.

The business has also developed a manual to help brands calculate their carbon footprint and is offering its carbon footprint labels to brands.

To help spread the news, Allbirds sent an email to some of the world’s biggest brands including Adidas, Burberry, Gucci, H&M, Hermes, Levi's, Louis Vuitton, Lululemon, Moncler, Nike, Uniqlo and Zara.

It also placed an ad in the New York Times, pictured below.

The carbon footprint resources are available on a dedicated Allbirds website, FreeTheFootprint.com
