It's another win for ethical fashion in Australia.

Sydney-based activewear label Dharma Bums has reported positive sales growth since its establishment in 2013.

Devoted to providing consumers with ethically produced clothing, the brand has revealed that it anticipates a $4 million turnover per year with no external investment.

Additionally the company has announced that it is now trading on a retail level in around 60 countries and has wholesale partners in over 15 countries.

Dharma Bums wholesale presence could even skyrocket – the brand believes it has a waiting list of more than 150 wholesalers who are interested in partnerships in the coming months.

The company's co-founders Debbie Lawson and Mat Guthrie believe that a strong ecommerce platform and a streamline approach to business are boosting its success.

‘These functions provide us with the foundation and ability to scale rapidly whilst keeping headcount

streamlined. Overheads and costs are kept low, enabling us to give the best possible price to the customers.

Also, our unique IT platform underpins the company’s aggressive international expansion plans in the coming months.”

Lawson and Guthrie bring with them 20 years experience in fashion buying and merchandising as well as IT system architecture and development.

Lawson said her experience in the industry has helped to better understand consumer demands as well as the need to practice ethical production.

“The company adopts the policy of a first price, right price policy ensure they offer very competitive pricing without relying on promotional events to boost sales. We adopt the refreshing approach of selling for what we can afford to not what we can get away with and this enables us to make ethical consumerism accessible to as many people as possible.”

The company has revealed that although it will continue to grow its online business, standalone stores in major Australian cities are likely to open in the future.
