Former editor of Harper’s Bazaar, Edwina McCann, has been announced as the new editor-in-chief of Vogue Australia.

The appointment, announced today by NewsLifeMedia chief executive Nicole Sheffield, will see McCann take charge of the Vogue Australia brand across print and digital platforms, including vogue.com.au from July.

McCann, who has 20 years’ experience in the luxury fashion market, will report directly to Sheffield and joins from ACP Magazines where she has worked as editor of Harper’s Bazaar for the last three years.

Sheffield said McCann's appointment heralds a new era in the Vogue Australia legacy.

Vogue is an outstanding brand. Harnessing our multi-platform offering through Vogue Australia, our extensive digital solutions and events will change the style and fashion media landscape in Australia. Our centralised multi-platform approach will create unparalleled editorial and marketing solutions for all Australian women,” she said.

“Edwina McCann is highly respected in the industry with a strong fashion background and extensive media experience. I’m very excited that she will be leading this holistic approach and will bring to life 'one Vogue' in Australia.”

McCann added that she sees a bright future ahead for the brand.

“I started my career at Vogue and I am very excited about returning to work for the world's most powerful fashion media brand. The opportunities for this formidable brand online and in a social media landscape are endless and our future is very bright indeed,” she said.

McCann succeeds Kirstie Clements who recently resigned, after 10 years as editor-in-chief of Vogue Australia and 13 years with the magazine.

Commenting on Clements' resignation, Sheffield said: “On behalf of everyone at NewsLifeMedia and Condé Nast, I thank Kirstie for the significant contribution she has made to Vogue during her time as editor-in-chief. She has guided the brand through a period of great change and has helped lay the foundation for its future. We wish her the very best.”
