Grace Loves Lace has unveiled its first eco-friendly wedding gown made from 96% recycled materials.

The Lumi gown has earned the brand the internationally renowned Global Recycling Standard (GRS) certification and has been in the works for two years.

The Lumi gown is made from repurposed resources that reduce landfill, ocean waste and CO2 emissions while saving water and energy.

"We were inspired to take materials that would have been otherwise discarded and use modern technology to create a beautiful wedding gown that holds so much meaning," founder and creative director Megan Ziems said.

"Knowing that up to two thirds of the sustainability impact of fashion happens at the raw materials stage, we made the decision to source and develop our own 100% eco lace in our signature pearl lace design.

"As a brand, we never stop looking for ways in which we can do better and Lumi was the natural next step in innovation.

"Repurposing what’s traditionally seen as waste product to create a valued heirloom - to me that’s revolutionary," she said.

The launch of the gown comes as the brand readies to expand its international footprint, set to open its 17th location in Canada in August.

Launching alongside the Lumi gown is the Lumi veil which has been made from 100% recycled tulle and lace.

"Using recycled materials can be a more costly and time-consuming process than new fabrics, but it has many environmental advantages," Ziems added.

"We have worked really hard to ensure the quality of the fabrics and components are not compromised during the eco manufacturing process and meet the high standards that we’re known for," she said.

Like all Grace Loves Lace gowns, the Lumi wedding dress is sustainably and ethically hand-produced in the brand’s Australian studio.
