Superga has revealed its debut organic collection after 12 months of development, Australian group general manager Helder Borges has told Ragtrader.
The new collection sees the Superga’s classic styles remodelled in sustainable materials.
While the brand’s classic shoes have always been made with cotton, natural rubber and aluminium, Superga has taken it one step further.
The new Organic Collection is made from 60% organic cotton, 40% natural hemp, 100% organic thread, a natural cork insole and a 50% recycled rubber sole.
“As a global brand, Superga has always been mindful of using products that have less impact on the world,” Borges said.
“The brand has been around for 100 years, so the traditional methods it has undertaken to make sneakers have always been front of mind to ensure that the brand uses materials that do not harm the planet.
“The concept [for the Organic Collection] has been going for the past 8-12 months.
“We had some great initial global discussions on how we could make a point difference with our world and our loyal consumers, who have been buying the brand’s classic icons for over 100 years.
“The quest to develop this collection with all the key styles that our consumer have come to love, was one that took some time as we wanted to ensure that we had all the right ingredients that still held the essence of the brand,” he said.
The Superga Organic Collection consists of four styles – 2750, 2490, 2843 and 2790 – and retails for between $119.95 and $149.95 on the Superga Australia website.
