Emerging and established Australian designers will be popping up in a new Melbourne-based retail concept.
In the heart of the South Melbourne market, SO:ME Space, a sustainable structure built from raw timber, crude lighting, draping greenery, hessian sacking and rough concrete floors, will consist of seven compact stores and four pop-up spaces.
With the aim of introducing a new dynamic to Australian retail, SO:ME Space will bring together a selection of established and emerging Australian designers in an innovative and design-focused environment.
The concept was introduced by BAM Brands, a Melbourne-based marketing and communications company, and is focused on supporting Australian design, providing well-priced product and retaining community involvement.
“Built to engage the younger set of the Port Philip area and expand upon the market’s appeal, SO:ME Space is a unique melting pot of Australian creativity,” a BAM Brands spokesman said. “It builds upon the traditional 'market’ aesthetic, but adds a contemporary and somewhat gritty vibe – unlike a typical retail destination.”
The space will consist of larger and smaller brands across various product categories, and to encourage repeat business, four pop-up spaces will be rotated every two weeks. The concept will launch on Wednesday.
