Australian department store Myer has partnered with American Express in its ‘Pay with Points’ initiative, bringing its total customer reach to 35 million across its Myer One program.
The loyalty program has seven million members, with additional partnerships including Virgin and Commonwealth Bank.
The latest partnership comes just five weeks after department store rival David Jones ended its 14-year relationship with American Express.
From today, American Express Card Members can shop online at Myer with their American Express Membership Rewards (MR) points simply by adding items to their bag and clicking the Amex Membership Rewards payment button at checkout.
When the Membership Rewards screen appears, shoppers can select the ‘View Points’ option and confirm the amount of MR points they want to use. Myer One customers can also earn credits on any purchase where MR points are redeemed.
Myer chief customer officer Geoff Ikin said the latest partnership comes as consumers search for greater value.
“This new partnership, in addition to our retail exclusive partnerships with Virgin Velocity and CommBank, gives us an unparalleled opportunity to provide more value to our customers and is an exciting opportunity for us to continue to innovate and offer customers greater convenience and flexibility when they shop with us,” Ikin said.
“At a time when we know Australians are looking to make their dollar stretch further, these partnerships, combined with our leading MYER one loyalty program, enable us to provide a compelling and market leading loyalty proposition to Australian consumers.”
Myer has 57 department stores across Australia, and operates online. The majority of Myer’s operations are in Australia and encompass Myer department stores, sass & bide and Marcs and David Lawrence (MDL).
In addition to its Australian operations, it has sourcing offices located in China and Hong Kong. Myer said its online business represents its largest store by sales.
