Chadstone – The Fashion Capital has announced it will feature Australian model Magnolia ‘Maminydjama’ Maymuru in its spring/summer 2016 campaign.

It is the latest player to sign indigenous talent to its portfolio.

The 19 year-old will also represent the Northern Territory in the final of Miss World Australia on July 22.

Her campaign will launch at Chadstone on September 15.

The model hails from far-east Arnhem land and was first spotted by the director of NT Fashion Week in 2014.

She chose to focus on finishing Year 12 before deciding to try modelling last year.

Since then, she has journeyed from the remote community of Yirrkala to become the first traditional indigenous model selected to compete in the Miss World National finals.

“The chance to work with Chadstone is a dream come true, and I know my family and community will be so proud”, Magnolia said.

The model, whose wish is to help promote diversity in the fashion industry both here and overseas, said she hopes she can inspire other women.

“I want to be a role model so that beauty is seen as universal, no matter what colour, size or shape you are”, she said.

Magnolia will be a part of Chadstone’s Spring Shopping Event on September 15, appearing in fashion presentations through the day.

The event celebrates the new season with hundreds of one-day-only store offers, entertainment and other activities throughout the centre, which is extending trading hours for the day.

The model says she has been exploring every corner of Chadstone and her interests lie in fashion, culture and art.

“My great grandmother and grandfather have artworks hanging in the Louvre in Paris and National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, and my father is a musician.

"Through modelling and this campaign with Chadstone, I hope I can challenge the way most of Australia views Indigenous life”, she said.
