Online fashion sales have continued a resurgence in 2018 with the industry reporting a 16.5% growth period for the month of May according to the NAB online retail sales index.

The report also found that May also continued a trend of improvement in monthly sales growth compared to 2017 results, with total sales up 17.2% compared to May 2017.

However, research suggested that month-on-month growth slowed in May at 1.2% compared to the strong growth shown in April which came in at 1.6%.

According to data reported by NAB, online sales over the past 12 months totalled $26.08 billion which now represents an equivalent of 8.3% of spending at brick & mortar retailers.

Overall sales numbers for the month also improved with ABS data on traditional retailers showing a month on month sales growth of 0.4%.

In its report, NAB emphasised that while sales trends were slowing, they were much stronger compared to the same period last year.

“Results slowed slightly in May at 1.2% compared to stronger growth in April at 1.6%.

“While slowing, trend online retail sales are still much stronger compared to the same period a year ago.”
