More Australian stores, fresh product lines and expansion into the UK market is on the cards for menswear brand Declic.

Following the opening of its new shop at Sydney's Strand Arcade this month, founder Gilles Du Puy, said in 2012 he plans to open more stores in cities that he has not yet reached.

Specialising in men's shirting and accessories, the brand, which is French for ‘love at first sight’, offers products from premium designers as well as its own range of socks, shirts and ties.

Beginning his career in fashion in Paris, founder Du Puy arrived in Australia in 1981 and later worked as a designer for established labels such as Sportscraft, Pierre Charbonnier and Jag.

He launched the Déclic label in 1986 and after originally wholesaling he now has 10 stores across Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

“We intend to open a few more stores, mainly in cities where we don't have our own, such as Brisbane,” Du Puy said. “We are also pursuing our push in the UK market and are starting to get good orders in from there.”

He said he is continually looking at new product lines to add to the brand and is now working on securing a finely crafted range of small leather goods, such as wallets and bags, to go into stores next year.

“The market has changed in the last few years and it is crucial we keep offering our point of difference, stay relevant and keep bringing a feel good factor to our customers through our products,” he said. “We need to keep creating this desire for people to come and visit us.”

Déclic has also just introduced a small range of reversible Italian leather and colour contrast stitch belts made in Australia.
