The department store reported operating profit has fallen 37.7% to $66 million.
Top-line sales fell by 3.8% for the six months ended December 31, with comparable store sales 3.3% lower.
Parent company Woolworths has announced a suite of initiatives to revive David Jones, including a new private label range designed by sister brand Country Road.
A new loyalty program covering both David Jones and Country Road will also aim to boost sales, as well as a $200 million refurbishment of its flagship store.

The news comes after a $712.5 million writedown of the David Jones business in January.
