Ford Millinery has shifted its production focus to combat COVID-19.

Founder Chantelle Ford said the brand has moved from producing designer headwear to designer fabric masks.

Under its new 'Masks 4 Mates' initiative, the company will donate one mask for every purchase.

Recipients of the donated masks include The Salvation Army.

Ford said the masks, priced at $24.95 and available in a range of fashion prints, protect both consumers and businesses.

"Like so many businesses, we faced almost a 100% loss of income in the blink of an eye.

"This is a way of hopefully keeping our incredible staff in work during these uncertain times.

"Our goal is to create enough demand to create more work for the recently unemployed."

Ford said the masks would help alleviate a global shortage of medical grade masks, with the range suited to those not in front-line and high-risk scenarios.
