Carolyn Young will succeed Greg Harford as the new chief executive officer of Retail NZ.

The move comes after Harford announced his resignation in May, effective on July 21.

Young was most recently the CEO of Special Olympics New Zealand, and Netball Central Zone; and previously held roles at the Dental Council and Jacques Martin.

She has a background in marketing, finance, and accounting from her previous roles, with Retail NZ saying her diverse skill set will be an asset to the organisation.

President Liz Wheadon confirmed that Young’s appointment came after a robust national search process.

“We had extensive interest in the role, and Retail NZ looks forward to a continued successful and impactful future under Carolyn’s leadership,” Wheadon said.

Young will receive a handover from Harford, who will leave later this month to take up a new role as CEO of the Canberra Business Chamber in ACT, Australia.
