Australian retailer Big W has signed on to DoorDash, offering 35,000 products on the delivery app platform.

The listed products span clothing, toys, electronics, pet necessities and other household items, which can be delivered during store trading hours from nearby stores, mostly within 60 minutes.

Nearly two-thirds (65 per cent) of the Big W products listed on DoorDash are priced under $20.

The service launches today across 156 stores, offering on-demand delivery to over 80 per cent of Australians, with plans to expand to more stores by the end of the month. This rollout follows a 10-store pilot launched on September 30.

The move sees Big W become the first discount department store in Australia to offer ultra-convenience for customers via on-demand delivery on DoorDash. This follows recent news that low-price retailer Target began listing its products on the Uber Eats app earlier this month, a reported first for that delivery platform.

The launch also comes ahead of peak trading, with Big W preparing to include Black Friday deals, Christmas gifts, Halloween costumes and summer gear, as well as beauty, fashion and homeware range drops.

Big W added that this rollout follows a surge in demand since the retailer’s launch of Same-Day Delivery, in a deal with DoorDash, in May, with small appliances, nursery essentials, toys, and bed linen amongst the most popular items.

“We know family life is chaotic and that our customers are looking for ways to ease the pressure when time isn't on their side,” Big W X director Jo Hicks said. Big W X is the digital ecosystem of Big W, including its marketplace.

“By partnering with DoorDash we’re helping make shopping with us even more convenient, whether that means getting an emergency activity to keep the kids busy, a set of glasses right before extra guests arrive, a last minute gift or a new outfit, customers can get what they need delivered in as fast as an hour without leaving home.”

DoorDash APAC vice president Simon Rossi added that Big W’s huge range of products makes it a worthy addition to DoorDash.

The new partnership joins Big W’s existing convenience offers, including free pick up from all stores, free metro delivery on all orders over $59, and free direct to boot available at select stores.

To mark the launch, Big W is offering customers 30 per cent off through the DoorDash app if they spend more than $70 with the code ‘BIGWDEBUT’.

Big W – owned and managed under Woolworths Group – operates 178 stores nationally. The retailer has a team of over 19,000 members, located in Australia, Hong Kong and Bangladesh.
