Queensland-based lingerie business Big Girls Don't Cry Anymore is helping small businesses get through the COVID-19 period by offering up a section of its showroom for use.

The business operates out of a site that's the size of four tennis courts and moved into the expanded premises during the pandemic.

The space contains a coffee shop and seating area which Big Girls Don't Cry Anymore owner Karen Edbrooke said has been repurposed for small businesses to use.

"Originally we were going to fill our new coffee shop space with tables and chairs and areas for the kids to play, but when COVID hit we put this on hold.

"With so many small businesses struggling and having to close down their stores, we decided to do something to help other businesses instead - so we have reworked our design to create a large open plan area for pop up shops.

"Businesses will now be able to come and set up their stores in our site for a period of time.

"They will be in a high traffic area at the front of our new store - next to our coffee shop and will also benefit from all of our customers who come into Big Girls," she said.

Edbrooke added that it won't only be those coming into the store that will see the pop-up, Big Girls will also promote the business across their social media sites.

"We will also promote them in our Big Girls live TV show and across our social media.

"We have a following of over 500k across multiple social media platforms - so we are going to use this to promote other small businesses as well," she said.

Edbrooke said that she hopes this act of solidarity will help small and start-up businesses find their feet during this period of disruption.

"I want to help other businesses and give back.

"I know that the more we can do to help other retailers during this difficult period, the better we will all be as a retail industry.

"Our pop-up space will also help start-up businesses as well to find their feet.

"A lot of business owners don't want to commit to retail space at the moment - they are feeling very scared.

"Hopefully our pop up space will not only help new businesses start up, but it will also help other small businesses to stay afloat and get through this difficult time," she said.
