A 'large' percentage of well-known fashion retailers have already signed up to Westfield and Groupon's new shopping initiative which is set to launch this month.

The shopping centre giant has teamed up with the group buying website, which offers daily discounts on products ands services, to create the 'Groupon Powered by Westfield' scheme.

From February 29 the partnership will offer deals and sales online from Westfield retailers in Australia.

Westfield Australia director of marketing, John Batistich, said to start with there will be one deal a week for eight weeks and retailers have already been locked in for these.

At this stage we cannot reveal which retailers have signed up for these yet, but we can say that they are all big and great names,” Batistich said. “We have had a high degree of interest from retailers and a large percentage is from some well-known fashion retailers.”

Batistich stressed that there will be a variety of deals aimed at different target markets and will incorporate beauty, travel, entertainment and food.

In time the amount of deals will increase to eventually offer six deals a week.

Interested tenants can sign up to the service by offering good group deals and a percentage of how much they make will then be given to Westfield and Groupon.

Batistich said it is the first shopping centre group in Australia to provide shoppers with an exclusive range of group buying deals and the deals will be promoted online and in-store.

Groupon approached Westfield last year and the two parties had been in talks since about a collaboration.

“Groupon Australia has achieved significant growth since launching one year ago and was market leader in December 2011 – this makes it the perfect partnership and a natural step for Westfield,” Batistich said.

Groupon Australia CEO, Tobias Teuber, said the new Westfield collaboration would open the daily deals market to a whole new world of highly sought after products and services from trusted brands and retailers.

Shoppers must sign up to Groupon Powered by Westfield, at westfield.com.au or on Groupon.com.au, to access the deals and subscribers will receive new deals weekly.

Deals can also be purchased via the Groupon and Westfield free mobile applications.
