International fashion etailer Asos has continued its love affair with the domestic market, with search engine Google revealing it as one of the most searched terms in 2011.

Google has released its second annual Australian 'Brand Zeitgeist', a list revealing the most popular brands with local consumers.

While online auction website eBay lead the 'Top Searches for Shopping Brands' category, Asos fronted a charge of global etailers for the 'Fastest Rising Searches for Shopping Brands'.

Asos experienced a 250 per cent year-on-year growth in searches and pushed Woolworths Online from its pole position.

Zara and Etsy were among a wave of international brands to make gains on locals such as Woolworths Online, Grays Online and Clive Peeters in fastest rising searches.

Discount department stores such as Target, Kmart and Big W however recorded growth in top searches over 2011.

Google data revealed 2011 as the biggest year yet for online retail in Australia, blitzing record growth during the strong Australian dollar in 2010.

As reported in Ragtrader's December 2 edition, Asos has now appointed a dedicated country manager to develop sales in Australia.
