The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) has announced a series of seminars to assist fashion retailers struggling with the complexities of modern awards and workplace laws.
The industry body will host seminars across Sydney and Melbourne from March to November 2011. ARA executive director Russell Zimmerman said the sessions were designed to explain to employers their obligations, including those related to Fair Work legislation that came into effect on January 1, 2010.
“The first seminar, 'Know your modern award', walks retailers through key components of the modern retail and fast food awards, while the second seminar 'IR for the HR practitioner', focuses on more detailed information for human resources professionals working in the retail sector,” Zimmerman said.
The first sessions will be hosted in Melbourne on March 9 and in Sydney on March 16. The cost for attendance starts from $295 plus GST.
Additional seminars on 'performance management and termination of employment' and 'equal opportunity and harassment' will commence in April.
