NATIONAL: Speedo is set to cement its recent venture into the intimate apparel market with an Australian first for autumn/winter 2010.
Developed by national license holder True Alliance, Speedo UnderBody officially launched in August with department stores Myer and David Jones among its key stockists.
Underbody product designer Tahnee McIlwraith said the brand's next collection will build on Speedo's reputation for fit and fabrication technologies with the use of burnt out modal.
"Burnt out...is used in apparel but to our knowledge, UnderBody is the only brand using it in the Australian underwear market at the moment," she said.
"The process involves printing a design with an acidic agent to burn away the natural fibre, leaving the man-made fibre exposed. This produces a shadow-like transparency."
"It is an exciting and beautiful way for us to bring newness to the range."
Speedo currently uses its SpeeDry moisture technology across the entire line to maximise its position as a performance underwear brand.
Speedo business manager Marc Miller said the autumn/winter 2010 collection has been streamlined after the "lessons learnt" from its debut range earlier this year. The next collection will feature less pieces overall for men and women, with a stronger focus on top selling items.
He confirmed the line will launch internationally next year. David Jones, Myer, sportswear chain SDS and selected sports and boutique stores across Australia currently carry Speedo UnderBody.
