NATIONAL: Apparel Group-owned label Sportscraft has released its autumn/winter 2008 offering with its menswear marked by what the company claims is a strong new direction.

In detailing the company's key trends for the season, Sportscraft public relations manager Michaela Vida said the brand had chosen this year to earmark mismatched layering for men as a key focus for its collection.

"Mixing of luxe fabrics like soft merino in brilliant bright wools are matched back with PVC and high tech fabrics in blackest black. The feeling is more sophisticated and minimal and is also a season of contrasts."

Key pieces for the menswear collection were the two button blazers, velvet sports jackets, double breasted pea coats and brushed moleskins, Vida said.

Taking its key pieces from the silhouettes of the 1940s, the label's women's range consists of "man style dressing" with wide leg trousers in heavy wools, slim leg pants and oversize, ruffled and variegated bib front tuxedo blouses.

Colour palettes for both collections include charcoal, black and navy.

The winter collection will be available from the end of this month in David Jones and Myer stores as well as Sportscraft boutiques nationally.
