New Zealand children's footwear label Bobux has announced its appointment of Monica Yianakis as its new CEO.

The appointment of Yianakis comes after former CEO Andrew Sharp departed the business in July 2021.

Yianakis joins Bobux from global beverage company Lion, where she was the strategic innovation director.

Prior to that role, Yianakis was the retail director at the drinks giant, where she led more than 200 staff.

Before her four years at Lion, Yianakis held senior roles at Frucor, Nestle and Danone.

Bobux board of directors chairperson Paul Connell said the business is excited for its next, digital-focused phase of leadership.

"Monica’s extensive consumer goods and retail experience, combined with strategic leadership and brand expertise, will amplify our track record of global growth.

"We’re excited to see Monica’s technology-focused, futurist mindset in action within the Bobux operation," he said.

Founded 30 years ago in an Auckland garage, Bobux has grown to become an omnichannel global business with a presence in 43 markets around the world.

Since 2019, the business has experienced double-digit global growth and is a finalist in the 2021 [New Zealand] Westpac Business Awards for both Excellence in International Trade and Employer of the Year.

Speaking on her appointment, Yianakis said she is focused on expanding the markets the business serves.

"The potential for these revolutionary shoes is huge, while they’re already being worn from New Zealand to Germany, there’s so many more little feet who can make their childhood journeys in Bobux shoes," she said.

Yianakis takes over from Acting CEO Matt Smith (currently CFO) who stepped in when Andrew Sharp departed in July 2021.
