Japanese minimalist retailer, Muji, is set to expand its Victorian offering, with a relocation and expansion of its Chadstone store.

The retailer's current store sits at 300sqm, but it will move into a 1700sqm store in August and will be located on the lower ground floor next to the newly renovated Food Atrium.

The store will house Muji's range of minimalist clothing for men, women and children, along with furniture, skincare, stationery, manchester and travel products. The store will offer consumers unique experiences through Muji Labo, a new garment capsule range, an embroidery service as well as a self-serve coffee facility.

The store will also host regular workshops and exhibitions in the centre of the store, dubbed Open Muji, which will form the centrepiece of the experiences on offer at the store.

Muji Australia's MD, Takeshi Fujimoto, said that Australian consumers have responded well to the brand and have strongly increased sales for the brand. Fujimoto said that this is due to the Australian consumer's desire to have an experience in a retail store.

"We’ve received a very positive response from the local market since we opened our first store in Chadstone back in 2013, and we’re incredibly excited to continue to grow our presence within Australia with this new offering.

"It will provide shoppers with a unique Japanese Muji experience through our increased product range, new store design to this market, and the inclusion of such elements such as Open Muji. All this combined will make for a truly Muji feeling.

"We look forward to further developing and sharing our brand concepts with our valued Australian customers and are thrilled to showcase the new Chadstone retail space," he said.

Muji currently has five retail store in Australia in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra and plans to expand its footprint further.

The new Chadstone location will open at the end of August 2019.
