When it comes to online performance, even milliseconds can matter.
The latest Akamai State of Online Retail Performance report reveals 53% of mobile visitors will leave a page that takes longer than three seconds to load.
A 100-millisecond delay in website load time can hurt conversion rates by 7%.
Only a two-second delay in load time hurt bounce rates by up to 103%.
The findings are based on 27.7 billion beacons’ worth of global data and roughly 10 billion user visits to websites across the Asia Pacific, US and Europe.
Akamai executive Ash Kulkarni said as competition heats up, etailers need to ramp up their offering.
“Customers have extremely short attention spans, and degradations in website performance – no matter how small – can cause consumers to go elsewhere in an instant."
