Sportsgirl is set to introduce its first range of sustainable swimwear this coming summer.

The range is made using 'Repreve' fabric which is created using recycled plastic bottles. The fibres are traceable, transparent and certifiably sustainable and is claimed to be the world's most innovative eco-friendly material.

Sportsgirl's range will span three core styles – a black one piece, a pastle tie-dye print long sleeve rash vest and a crop, zip rashie with printed long sleeves.

Sportsgirl national marketing manager Kate Rees said that the business is responding to its customer's interests.

"We are listening to our customer and what is important to her.

"Sustainability and recycling are important to us too and we are excited to launch this recycled collection with Repreve."

Repreve offsets using new petroleum, emitting fewer greenhouse gases and conserving water and energy in the process.

Repreve has; recylced over 14 billion plastic bottles; provides 1.7 million people their typical daily drinking water for one year; generates enough energy to power 133,000 homes for one year; and, has improved air quality by avoiding 382 million kgs of C02 emissions.
