The Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out will launch next week and is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors into CBD retailers and businesses.

Launching on Thursday, October 20, hundreds of retailers and brands will take part in the event.

The night out will give retailers the opportunity to connect with shoppers through existing and new in-store specials, and will include scan-to-win promotions, live runway shows, fashion Q&As and music performances.

As a major sponsor, the City of Sydney is contributing $170,000 in cash and in-kind support to encourage visitors to take part in the event and explore the city centre.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out has become an established event for many Sydneysiders - “and not just fashionistas.”

“For so many, the pandemic made an already challenging retail environment almost impossible,” Moore said.

“Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out returning to the city centre as a live, one-day event will benefit both our retailers and the hard-hit hospitality sector.

“The event is waving the banner of optimism, signalling the city is abuzz – that Sydney is once again the lively, spirited and engaging place it has always been.”

The international fashion event first started in New York City in 2009, designed to celebrate shopping and support the fashion industry during the global financial crisis. The event has then been celebrated in shopping capitals around the world, including Madrid, Milan and Tokyo.

According to City of Sydney, the Australian event has helped combat the challenges faced by the retail industry since 2012, by creating a platform for retailers to connect with existing and new audiences, leveraging the Vogue brand.

In 2019, an estimated 206,000 people attended the Sydney event, with an average spend of $244, and more than 200 retailers participating. The event generated approximately $45.5m of economic impact to the city centre retail sector.

Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out takes place on Thursday, October 20 from 10am to 9pm.
