Uniqlo has fuelled speculation it is scouting retail sites across Australia and New Zealand.

The Fast Retailing Company, which operates the cutting-edge Japanese fashion chain, has announced its aggressive market plans in its quest to become the 'world's number one casual clothing company'.

At a press conference this week chief executive, Tadashi Yanai, said he wants to push for globalisation and open 200-300 stores worldwide each year, with the southern hemisphere on the cards.

“Uniqlo will become a global brand that will offer everyone in the world the chance to enjoy wearing truly great clothing,” Yanai said.

Uniqlo, which sells men and womenswear, will open a large number of stores in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam and will "consider" opening sites in Australia and New Zealand.

Uniqlo has hundreds of stores in Japan and many in Russia, Hong Kong, China, France, the UK and the USA among, other countries.
