Global data has revealed that 75% of Australian millennials will abandon transactions if a mobile site is slow or likely to crash during peak periods.

In addition 59% of Australian millennials believe they would complain publicly on social media about the issue ahead of the global average at 51%.

The research conducted by an independent firm on behalf of Dynatrace also suggests that retailers should be looking at updating their mcommerce platforms.

It said that 54% of Australians believe they will do more Christmas shopping on tablets and smartphones and if a mobile app takes more than three seconds to load, 55% will shop elsewhere.

Despite an increase in consumer demand for speed, 65% of respondents said that company-branded mobile apps have a better user experience and perform better than a company website.

Dynatrace APAC marketing director Dave Anderson believes this festive season could be a massive learning curve for all retailers.

“Mobile shopping will shatter records again this year, and the price retailers will pay for poor digital experiences will also be historic.

“We can see the future of retail by looking at what mobile shoppers ages 18 to 34 are doing now. They are demanding flawless customer experiences and are quick to be disappointed and complain on social media.

“This trend led by millennials has changed retail forever.

“Today, companies will win or fail based on their ability to deliver great customer experiences at every digital opportunity along the shopping journey.”
