eBay has revealed that today, December 11, it is expecting more than 2.7 million visitors to the site.

Of that number, the online marketplace is expecting 1.8 million of those users will visit the site through mobile devices, setting new records for mobile shopping.

eBay predicts gifts to be purchased via mobile at a rate of 3 per second compared to 5 per second across the entire site.

Historically, Australia’s busiest online shopping day has seen peak desktop purchasing in the evening. However, today eBay is forecasting sales to peak between 1pm and 2pm.

On mobile, sales will peak between 9pm and 10pm, with the 15 minutes between 9pm and 9.15pm expected to see the highest rate of online purchasing ever on eBay in Australia.

During this time, on mobile devices alone, eight items will be purchased per second.

Over half of the items purchased on eBay’s busiest shopping day (56%) will be from local sellers.

A breakdown of the most active shoppers reveals that regional areas will be shopping above average, with Toowoomba QLD, Werribee VIC, Liverpool NSW, Mackay QLD and Truganina VIC the top postcodes across the nation.
