Topshop. Uniqlo. Zara. Gap. H&M. How many stores are these international power brands looking to establish down under?

Around 28 international retailers will hunt for an additional 220,000 square metres of Australian retail space and establish 235 stores within the next five years.

These are the findings of a white paper produced by commercial property firm Colliers International.

Titled 'International Retailers; Australia is Hot Property', the paper revealed most global retailers fell within the fast fashion or general apparel category.

US retailers represented nearly 40 per cent of entrants, with Banana Republic, Ambercrombie & Fitch and J Crew reportedly looking for space to set up stores.

Hollister is already scheduled to open a store in Bondi Junction, Sydney.

The remaining retailers came from the UK (22 per cent), Canada (13 per cent), Sweden and Japan (six per cent) and Spain, Finland, Germany, South Korea and Israel (three per cent).

A substantial number of retailers are expected to rollout larger store portfolios including Topshop/Topman (15), Gap (15), Zara (20), H&M (10), Agent Provocateur (10), Uniqlo (25) and Lululemon Athletica (30).

"International retailers have a number of potential competitive advantages over local retailers," the paper claimed.

"Operating globally provides them economies of scale which can be used to bring products to Australia at reduced prices."
