Target Australia has partnered with Desert Designs on a range featuring the artwork of renowned indigenous artist Jimmy Pike.

The new 'Designers for Target' range will launch nationally in selected stores and online on December 3.

It will feature a range of womenswear, swimwear and beach towels.

Target managing director Stuart Machin said the 31 piece range is a contemporary, resort-style collection designed for the Australian summer.

"Target is thrilled to be working with Desert Designs and showcasing the iconic prints of the internationally acclaimed artist Jimmy Pike in this one-off collection," Machin said.

The on-trend designs are modern but wearable, and showcase the artwork of Jimmy Pike to stunning effect."

The collection is priced from $35 to $75 and will be ranged in 40 Target stores.

Machin said the partnership with Desert Designs was part of Target’s broader commitment to developing genuine business and employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians.

"As a national Australian fashion retailer, we think we have a real opportunity - in fact an obligation - to promote Indigenous art, culture and design.

"Our partnership with Desert Designs is the first of what we hope will be many such collaborations."

Desert Designs pioneered commercial license arrangements with Jimmy Pike in 1985, and this relationship saw Jimmy Pike become one of only several artists in Australia to be financially independent.

Desert Designs continues to contribute to the Jimmy Pike Trust through royalty payments and has done so for the past 29 years.

To celebrate the Desert Designs for Target range, Target has donated $12,000 to the Jimmy Pike Trust to fund two printmaking scholarships for emerging Kimberley artists to attend Edith Cowan University.
