South African fashion retailer MRP will open its first Australian store in Melbourne Central this October.

The 1000sqm store will provide consumers an offering of clothing, accessories, footwear and sleepwear for women, men and kids.

MRP CEO Stuart Bird has also hinted that further expansion could be on the horizon.

“As a business based in the Southern Hemisphere, we’re able to offer Australians a relevant, seasonal trend-led assortment.

“While initially we will focus on our MRP apparel stores, there is potential to follow with our mrpHome and mrpSport divisions.”

Melbourne Central general manager Leigh Dunn believes that the opening will only boost the city's evolving retail landscape.

“The Melbourne city retail landscape has experienced huge revitalisation.

“Melbourne Central is proud to be a part of this consumer-driven change that cements the CBD as Melbourne’s essential shopping destination.

“We know that MRP’s mix of affordable and fashion-forward pieces will be a huge drawcard for Melbourne Central customers and the popular brand is a perfect complement to the other fashion retailers we have on offer.”

MRP currently operates 440 apparel stores and 1,150 stores including its home and sport offshoots.

The company reportedly has an international shareholding of around 53 per cent.

At the year to end March 2015, its market capitalisation also reached approximately R64-billion, with the operating profit for its apparel division up 20.6 per cent and 19.4 per cent in its homeware division.

MRP is set to open its doors in Australia on October 22nd.
